UUID Generator V5

This tool is a simple yet powerful way to generate Version 5 UUIDs according to your needs. Whether you need just one UUID or a hundred, our tool has you covered!

UUID Generator Tool (Version 5)

This tool helps you generate Version 5 UUIDs (Universally Unique Identifiers) easily. With just a few clicks, you can create one or many UUIDs based on your preferred settings. The tool is user-friendly, offering multiple customization options to fit your needs.

How to Use the Tool

  1. Namespace and Name:
To generate a UUID, you need a namespace and a name. The namespace is a UUID Version 4. If you don’t have one, don’t worry! There is a refresh button next to the namespace input field that generates a new UUID Version 4 for you. Learn more about UUID Version 4.

  2. Formate Your UUID:
After entering the namespace and name, you can customize the format of your UUID:
    • Uppercase: Toggle this option to make your UUIDs uppercase.

    • Include Hyphens: Toggle this option if you want to remove hyphens from your UUIDs.

  3. Bulk Generation:
Need more than one UUID? Simply increase the number of UUIDs to generate multiple ones at once.

  4. Generate and Output:
Click the "Generate" button, and your customized UUID(s) will be shown under the "UUID(s) - V5" section.

  5. Download or Copy:
Once your UUIDs are generated, you can easily copy them to your clipboard using the "Copy" button or download them as a text file with the "Download" button.

Technical Information on UUID Version 5

Version 5 UUIDs are generated using a namespace and a name. The key difference between Version 5 and other UUID versions is that Version 5 uses the SHA-1 hashing algorithm. The namespace, which is also a UUID (usually Version 4), is combined with the name to create a hash, which is then used to generate the final UUID.

This method ensures that for the same namespace and name, the generated UUID will always be the same. So if you need consistent UUIDs for the same inputs, Version 5 is a reliable choice.

Comparison to Version 3 UUIDs

Version 5 UUIDs are very similar to Version 3 UUIDs, except Version 3 uses MD5 instead of SHA-1 for hashing. SHA-1 provides better security than MD5, which is why Version 5 UUIDs are recommended over Version 3. Learn more about UUID Version 3.

Why Use UUID Version 5?

  • Consistency: The same namespace and name will always generate the same UUID.

  • Flexibility: You can use any UUID as the namespace.

  • Better Security: Version 5 UUIDs are more secure than Version 3 due to the use of SHA-1 instead of MD5.

Although UUIDs are not designed for security purposes, Version 5 UUIDs are suitable for cases where you need consistent and unique identifiers that won’t change over time.
